How to Start a Recovery Centre in India
A practical sequence for opening a recovery or sports performance centre, with the equipment list that goes with each stage.
The order matters more than the shopping. Most failed builds bought the right equipment in the wrong order, or sized it against a daily total instead of a peak hour.
Define throughput before anything else
Everything downstream — chamber size, room size, electrical load, staffing — derives from one number: how many people you intend to serve in your busiest hour. Recovery demand is not evenly distributed; it clusters immediately after training and after work.
Write down peak-hour sessions, then average session length per modality, and you have the capacity you must buy. Every other approach ends in queues or idle capital.
Choose the site against the requirements
- Three-phase electrical supply available, or a costed route to it.
- Floor loading adequate for chambers and filled plunge tubs — check before the lease, especially above ground level.
- Access route wide and tall enough to bring a chamber in without cutting a wall.
- Plant space for compressors and condensers, with heat rejection and acoustic isolation.
- Drainage if plunge is in the plan.
Full figures are in the installation requirements guide. This is the step that most often turns a clean budget into a construction project.
The sports recovery centre equipment list
| Stage | Equipment | Why here |
|---|---|---|
| Core circuit | Commercial cold plunge, compression stations | Lowest capital, simplest site requirements, opens the doors |
| First premium station | Full body red light therapy bed | Short sessions, high turnover, single-phase power, no plant room |
| Anchor asset | Whole body cryotherapy chamber | Four to six per cycle, the highest peak-hour capacity on the floor |
| Clinical tier | Hyperbaric oxygen chamber | Highest session value, longest sessions, most demanding installation |
| Support | Assessment area, changing and drying, reception and booking system | Determines the experience and the rebooking rate |
Commission, train, then open
Commissioning is not delivery. Chambers need pressure or pull-down testing and calibration, and staff need protocol, contraindication screening and emergency procedure training before the first paying client walks in. Build a fortnight of soft-open into the plan and use it.
Academies, gyms and performance centres
A cricket academy and a commercial gym buy the same equipment for different reasons. The academy is sizing for a squad arriving together and needs peak capacity; the gym is sizing for a steady trickle and needs margin per session. See sports & performance and gyms, spas & hotels for how the specifications diverge.
